Rise of Online Job Boards

Jobamaticlogo_1

The launch of Job-a-matic by SimplyHired is a timely reminder of the continued growth of online recruitment as I reviewed in my previous posting:  Internet advertising nears £1 billion for first six months of 2006

In a nutshell, Job-a-matic enables bloggers and other publisher's to provide a white label job board as part of their site. The job board will display job listing and enable blogger's to earn revenue on a 'click-through' basis. The move will provide recruiters with access to highly specific niche candidates whilst simultaneously enabling blogger's to monetise their sites.

Greg Sterling has written a review of the launch over at Search Engine Journal.

Whilst the launch of Job-a-matic is good news for blogger's, it still does not provide a complete solution for companies and recruitment agencies wishing to maximise and control their own online job marketing campaigns. This is where Edgeworks soon to be launched 'JobDept' solution steps up to the mark.

JobDept is an online Recruitment Marketing Solution designed to ensure clients can maximise their vacancies online in a secure, web compliant and fully SEO optimised environment. Unlike traditional enterprise-wide Recruitment Management Solutions, JobDept is squarely focused on maximising online visibility via blogs, RSS directories, PPC marketing, job search engines and social media networks.

As a fully scalable solution, JobDept will enable recruiters to embrace the new online environment and create highly innovative and effective campaigns.

JobDept is currently in beta testing with a number of clients with a full launch scheduled for Q1 07. If you would like to find out more about JobDept or indeed participate in our ongoing beta tests please feel free to contact me.

UK banks target migrant workers!

Natwest_ad_jan_06

Following on from my earlier post (Franglais?) reporting the rise and use on-line of languages other than English, I noticed this poster earlier today in Manchester which seemed to be a 'real world' example of the effect of the changes in action.

The picture clearly shows a NatWest ad targeting the Polish community  -  I guess this is only the tip of the iceberg and we are likely to see more and more of this as time goes by.

Not sure what Jade and the rest of the Big Brother participants will make of this, given their apparent dislike for other nationalities,  but I for one think it's great!

New Year, New Law

As the New Year gets underway it's perhaps a good time to review your online marketing to ensure you remain fully legal and compliant. From January 1st 2007 companies in the UK are required to include certain regulatory information on their web sites AND in their email footers or they will breach the Companies Act and risk a fine.

The legal aspects of the changes are well documented by www.out-law.com (our web compliance partners) and basically require all companies to list its company registration number, place of registration and registered office address on its web site, emails and electronic documents including order forms.

It is worth noting, that contrary to popular belief, the information does not have to appear on every web page and many companies will already provide the required information on their 'About Us', 'Contact Us' or 'Legal info' pages. For those companies who subscribe to Edgeworks Web Compliance Service we will review individual web sites and provide feedback accordingly. However, it's important that clients check that the information provided to us is accurate and any amendments or updates will be implemented.

Whilst we don't expect to see a rush of litigation following these changes, its worth getting your house in order all the same to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining professional standards.
