There's Still Money On the Table

SEO firm www.oneupweb.com has recently published a report entitled: 'There's Still Money on The Table' which basically reports that of the top 100 e-tailers (American) only 20 were considered well optimised' whilst some 27 showed 'No signs of optimisation', with the remainder falling somewhere in between. Whilst the report might make for uncomfortable reading for the sites that were reviewed, it does support the idea that smaller new-comers with a well executed online marketing campaign can still be effective.

This thought led me to think of how few companies I meet actually monitor the changing online landscape and adapt their strategies accordingly. For example, how many companies have recognised the emergence of Google Universal and understood how this utilises many 'vertical search' databases, not just the unibquitous web search we are all so familiar with. Google has many established 'Vertical Engines' and ensuring your business is correctly listed will no doubt provide dividends (i.e. traffic) in the medium term as Google Universal develops even further.

To find out more about Google Universal read Danny Sullivans posting: Google Universal Search.

For a quick win in this area, re-read one of my earlier posts (Google Maps) on the rise of local searches and make sure your business is listed correctly.
